Internet use and agricultural productivity in rural Vietnam

Abstract The use of the internet is growing rapidly and has become an engine for economic development. However, few studies have examined impact on agricultural production, results are not yet conclusive. Employing a dataset more than 2000 observations in rural Vietnam, our study analyses productivity using heteroscedasticity‐based instrument approach suggested by Lewbel, Journal Business Economic Statistics , 2012, 30, 67–80 examines heterogeneity distribution quantile regressions. Our show that significant positive effects productivity. these heterogeneous across population groups. stronger households with lower level education, young female head, from ethnic minorities. benefits also found to be skewed towards group farmers at bottom distribution. Therefore, we propose facilitating diffusion internet, since it only boosts productivity, but reduces inequality. In addition, recommend promoting supporting local markets, investing irrigation systems, farm mechanisation as factors contribute increasing
